Ahoy Bay Area Carls! Back by popular demand....

You are cordially invited to spend a delightful morning exploring the San Francisco Bay on the 82-ft schooner Seaward - the same vessel used on Carleton Alumni Adventure’s “Baja by Schooner” trips. The cost of this three-hour sail is $65 per person.

We will be treated to amazing views of Bay Area sights (Golden Gate Bridge, Angel Island, and Alcatraz, among others) from a vantage point many of us have never seen - even if we’ve lived here for decades. (Er... unless you came on the last trip. But I digress....)

No sailing experience is required. Participants have the option to kick back and take in the scenery (as well as complimentary beverages and snacks) or to learn a bit of seamanship from the crew - both through sailor’s lore and by helping to hoist the sails and set the ship’s course.

Seaward is owned and operated by Call of the Sea, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping students better understand their world through experiential education, with the aim of empowering future generations to become “environmental stewards.” Seaward's crew is well-versed in the current state of the SF Bay’s unique ecosystem and will happily provide information about Bay Area natural history upon request.

Drinks and snacks will be provided.

BUT WAIT - There's more!!.

After the sail, there will also be time to view the Army Corps of Engineers Bay Model. This facility provides a unique understanding of the entire San Francisco Bay watershed through a scale hydrological model. Admission to the Model's Visitors Center is free, and we've arranged a group tour with a representative from the Corps.

All in all, it should be a delightful time experiencing our unique environment from a new vantage.

Cost: Tickets are $65.00 per person, and there are only 40 tickets for our sailing. **UPDATE - The tickets for this trip have all been sold. Please email alumni-office@carleton.edu if you would like to be placed on a waitlist in case a current attendee cancels.**

Directions: Call of the Sea’s sailing vessels, Seaward and Matthew Turner, are docked at the Bay Model Pier, adjacent to the Bay Model Visitor Center, located just North of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge in Sausalito. If you use a GPS/directions app, search for the Bay Model Visitor Center, located at 2100 Bridgeway, Sausalito, CA 94965.

From the North: Take Highway 101 to the Sausalito-Marin City Exit. Make a left at the stop light and go under the highway overpass. Make a right at the light onto Bridgeway. See directions below.

From the South: Take Highway 101 to the Sausalito-Marin City Exit. Go straight through the stoplight; you will be on Bridgeway. See the directions below.

From there, look for the small brown and white signs for the Bay Model along the way. Continue on Bridgeway to the third stoplight. Make a left on Harbor Drive and make and an immediate right onto Marinship Way, between FedEx and Mollie Stone’s. The road will curve around a parking lot, and at the stop sign make a right to stay on Marinship Way. Follow the sign to the Bay Model. Just before the next stop sign, take a left toward the water, which will lead you into the parking lot for the Bay Model.

The Bay Model Pier is owned by the Army Corps of Engineers and is a secure dock. In order to access the pier, you will need a Call of the Sea escort.
