 and tours of the Philip Johnson Glass House!

Presentation by Lauren Soth, Carleton Professor of Art History, emeritus

Tour the Glass House, New Canaan, CT

Wednesday, October 6—tours at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and 12 p.m.

Philip Johnson designed some of America's greatest modern architectural landmarks. His private residence in New Canaan is now a National Trust Historic Site. Professor Lauren Soth, who taught modern and post-modern architecture at Carleton, including the work of Philip Johnson, will discuss the Glass House in the wider context of Johnson's career and in relation to the general development of architecture in the last century. Lauren will be accompanied by his wife, Nancy.

The following day, we have tickets reserved for three tours - space is extremely limited. The Glass House tours are generally sold out more than a year in advance.


Details:  Presentation by Prof. Soth: hosted by Chuck Donnell '54 and Zoe Kelly Donnell '55 at their home.  Space is limited and your reservation is requested before October 1. Directions will be sent to respondents in advance. You are welcome to attend the free lecture whether or not you are able to tour the following day.

Tour:  $30 per person; 90-minute tours begin at 10 a.m. (13 tickets) 11 a.m. (13 tickets), and 12 p.m. (13 tickets) beginning from the Glass House Visitors Center.  The tour includes access to the Glass House, Painting Gallery, Sculpture Gallery, and da Monsta, and includes a 1/2 mile walking tour across the site. Professor Soth will accompany the groups if possible.  Photography is not permitted. 

Reserve your place for the lecture and/or tour by calling the Carleton Alumni Affairs Office at 800-729-2586 to make a reservation using a credit card. The list of respondents will be provided to the Glass House staff in advance; paper tickets are not provided.
