Political scientists, along with everyone else, failed to predict the rise of Donald Trump. But can social science help us understand what has happened in this election cycle, help us predict the result, or shed light on the potential consequences of the 2016 election? Middlebury College political scientist Bert Johnson '94 offers some ideas from the academic trenches and he is eager to foster dialogue among Vermont Carls about the topic.
