at the home of

2 Pine Tree Drive
Lebanon, NJ 08833

Robert Strauss '73 will discuss his new-ish book, Worst. President. Ever., recently released in paperback.

The book is titularly a somewhat sardonic biography of James Buchanan, but talks also about how and why we rate presidents, why we historically have not always had the best people run, what we can learn from even a failed presidency, and, as well, some riffs from Robert related to his lifelong offbeat obsessions with the presidents.

Among those giving early praise for Worst. President. Ever. include former PA Gov. Ed Rendell, CNN commentator Michael Smerconish, and even two Carls, former US Rep. Rush Holt '70 and Pulitzer-prize winning biographer Kai Bird '73 (who won for his book on J. Robert Oppenheimer). More information can be found on the Amazon web page here.

Since Carleton, Robert has been a reporter at Sports Illustrated, a feature writer for the Philadelphia Daily News, a news and sports producer for KYW-TV in Philadelphia, and taught non-fiction writing at Penn since 1999, when he became a freelancer, where his biggest client is the New York Times—he’s had more than 1000 bylines there.

This will be a casual event and we'd really like as many people as possible to join us. Children are welcome to attend although the book talk is directed at an adult audience. Paperback copies of the book will be available for sale.

Cost: There is no cost to attend.

Items to Bring: Beverages will be provided. If you would like to, please bring appetizers, snacks, or sweets to share.
