Hot Art and Cool Blues in Kalamazoo

Saturday, July 11, 2009

Spend the day with other Carls in Kalamazoo and experience the 16th Annual Kalamazoo Blues Festival and  a guided tour of Georgia O’Keeffe and Her Times:  American Modernism from the Lane Collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Start your day at the 16th Annual Kalamazoo Blues Festival, an annual event which features groups like Garage Band 101, Thirsty Perch, Crossroads, The Resurrection, and more.  On Saturday, the Festival runs from noon to 1 a.m. at Arcadia Festival Place

Then, take a short walk (4-5 blocks) to the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts to join classmates for the 3:30 tour of the exhibit:  Georgia O’Keeffe and Her Times, featuring 12 paintings by O’Keeffe as well as over 30 outstanding paintings by her contemporaries, including Arthur Dove, Marsden Hartley, and Charles Sheeler.  This exhibition brings one of this country’s premier collections of American Modernist paintings to Michigan.

After nourishing your soul, join other Carls for dinner at a local restaurant.
