Summer Send-Off

Saturday, August 10, 2013, 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Rock Creek Park Picnic Area #8, Washington, D.C.
(see directions below)

The annual Summer Send-Off is a long time Washington, DC Carleton Club tradition. It’s our way to welcome incoming students and the best opportunity we have all year for the entire Carleton community to get together.  We’ll provide some outdoor games (feel free to bring your own) and light refreshments.

Prospective students and parents - Chat with current students, alumni, and families!
New students and parents – Come have some fun Carleton-style before you head out to Minnesota!
Returning students & alumni – We invite you to welcome the new students to Carleton!
Parents of returning students – Welcome (and reassure) our new Carleton parents!
Alumni with children – This is a perfect event for you and your family!

Prospective students, members of the incoming Class of 2017 and your family members, you need not bring anything. Current students, alumni, and your families, please bring a snack to share:

Last name A-K:  entrees or salads (sandwiches, salads, meat, veggies, etc.)
Last name L-R:  snacks or beverages (chips, crackers, sodas, water, etc.)
Last name S-Z:  desserts (cookies, bars, fruit, etc.)

Paper products will be provided.

RSVP via Google Form (http://bit.ly/CarletonRSVP) or by e-mail with your name, number of guests, and what you will be bringing by August 5th. Questions? Contact  Alicia Mazzara ’06--be sure to call if you have trouble finding us on the day of the picnic.

In case of heavy rain the event will be cancelled.

Directions

Picnic Area #8 is located just south of Sherrill Drive NW and Beach Drive NW.  Visit the National Parks Service website for a map of Rock Creek park: http://www.nps.gov/rocr/planyourvisit/upload/rocrmap1.pdf

If you are driving, there are two parking options:

1) Park in the vicinity of 16th and Aspen Street NW.  Walk down Sherrill Drive (closed to cars on weekends) to site #8, about a 10 minute walk.

2) You can park at the picnic site, but you will need to take a more circuitous route through the park because Sherrill Drive is closed to cars on the weekend (for example, you might take Military Road to Beach Drive).

If you are taking public transportation, the S2 or S4 (16th St Line) buses stop in front of Walter Reed Medical Center, a block north of Sherrill Drive.   Walk on Sherrill Drive (closed to cars on weekends) to site #8, about a 10 minute walk.
