Join us and Belmont Books as Kevin McIntosh '80 discusses his moving but funny novel Class Dismissed with author Lisa Borders. Informed by his thirty-year teaching career in New York City, Oakland, and Greater Boston, Class Dismissed was released July 1 by Regal House Publishing. In Class Dismissed, a young teacher from a Minnesota farm town is cast down a New York City rabbit hole of Board of Education bureaucracy and union politics when a privileged but learning-disabled student is injured in his classroom. Fellow Carl Jane Hamilton '79 calls it “pitch-perfect . . .very funny . . . not to mention harrowing and of this moment.”

Kevin McIntosh’s short stories have appeared in the American Literary Review, Beloit Fiction Journal, Chicago Tribune, Jabberwock Review, Potomac Review, and have been nominated for Best New American Voices and the Pushcart Prize. He has had residencies at the Ragdale Foundation and Blue Mountain Center, and is a thirty-year veteran of public school teaching in Oakland, New York City, and Greater Boston. He lives and writes in Somerville, Massachusetts.

Lisa Borders grew up in Central and Southern New Jersey. She is the author of the novel Cloud Cuckoo Land, winner of the Fred Bonnie Award for Best First Novel and fiction honors in the 2003 Massachusetts Book Awards. Lisa lives in Somerville, Massachusetts and teaches at Grub Street, Boston's independent writing center. She also works as a cytotechnologist.
