LA Art Gallery Tour with Prof. Ross Elfline

Saturday, April 27th, 2019

The Los Angeles Carleton Club invites you to a

LA Art Gallery Tour

Saturday, April 27, 2019

Food Group: Genesis    Ramble Ramble, Mark Whalen    Heidi Hahn, The Same Kind of Story Told Backwards 1

Join us for a tour of some of Los Angeles’s most vital and influential galleries of contemporary art. While much of today’s art world may initially seem daunting, Associate Professor of Art History Ross Elfline will help demystify these challenging works by artists who reflect critically on pressing issues of our contemporary moment. We will be able to witness both homegrown LA artists and prominent international art stars over the course of this daylong gallery tour. To rest your eyes, you can also join other alums for drinks and food along the way.

Since Los Angeles is a city of neighborhoods, Ross (a former Angeleno who earned his PhD from UCLA in 2009) will take us to some of his old haunts and some newer linchpins of the LA art scene first in Culver City, then in Hollywood, and finally to LA’s Downtown arts district. Feel free to join us for part or all of the day, as your schedule allows.

Ross is a professor of contemporary art and architectural history whose research focuses on conceptual practices from the 1960s and 70s in America and Europe. In addition to his Carleton courses on recent art production, he also leads an off-campus study program in Europe called Art Now that introduces his students to cutting-edge art at Europe’s major large-scale global exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale and Documenta. This Los Angeles gallery tour is a similar opportunity to join an exciting exploration of some of the newest and most innovative work being produced in today’s art world.
