Hosted by Keith Libbey '59

Martha Larson joined the Facilities Staff at Carleton College in 2010 as Carleton's first Manager of Campus Energy and Sustainability. Her first two projects were creation of the campus Climate Action Plan targeting net zero greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2050 and installation of the Kracum Wind Turbine. Martha is now managing a multi-phase Utility Master Plan which will transition the campus district energy system from steam to "low temperature" hot water tied to a geothermal heat pump system (go.carleton.edu/geothermal).

The last time Carleton College made a major shift in its campus utilities was over 100 years ago with construction of the central plant in 1910. Before that, each individual building was heated by a coal furnace or fireplaces. Now the college is embarking on its utility plan for the next 100 years. Martha will share the planning process of the Utility Master Plan and give updates about what is currently happening on campus, and what is coming next.

Cost: $10 per person (includes lunch)

The RSVP Form is now closed. Please contact the Alumni Relations Office at 507-222-4205 to see if there is space to attend. It will not be possible to accommodate walk-ins.

Martha Larson received her mechanical engineering degree in 1999 from Northwestern University. She began her career in Chicago first as an acoustical consultant and then as a project manager for large municipal, museum and performing arts projects. She now lives in Northfield with her husband, Nat (Carleton's digital archivist) and her two children, Olga and Gus. In her spare time, Martha is a jazz cellist, vocalist and local arts organizer.
