The speaker for May's Breakfast Club is Al Montero, the Frank B. Kellogg Professor of Political Science.

Professor Montero will present on the political and economic challenges facing Cuba today. Professor Montero has taught Cuban Politics at Carleton and lectured on Cuba during several Alumni Reunions and on three Alumni Adventures trips to Cuba, most recently in January 2018. His presentation will delve into the key structures of the Cuban economy and how these are changing. Cuba’s relations with the United States under the Obama and Trump administrations will also be covered.

Professor Al Montero is the Frank B. Kellogg Chair of Political Science at Carleton College and the senior editor of the refereed journal, Latin American Politics and Society. He also serves at Carleton as the Director of Advising and the Director of Faculty Diversity Recruitment. His main research areas are the political economy of South American countries and the quality of democracy. He is the author of several books and numerous scholarly journal articles and chapters.
