Laura Riehle-Merrill will provide an overview of what sexual misconduct prevention and response looks like at Carleton today. She will focus on current efforts to increase student reporting, feedback from students who have received support through her office, and future hopes for addressing root causes of sexual violence.

Laura worked in Carleton's Center for Community and Civic Engagement Center (formerly ACT) from 2005 until 2017, when she started in her current role as Carleton's first full time Title IX Coordinator. Prior to becoming Title IX Coordinator, Laura served on Carleton’s Title IX Lead Team as Deputy for Support and as an adviser for Carleton students going through the College’s sexual misconduct complaint process. Through this lived experience, she has seen how crucial it is for Carleton to continue to provide resources for students going through the complaint process, and to simultaneously bolster campus-wide prevention efforts.

In Laura's current role she leads Carleton's efforts to improve the campus climate; ensures Carleton has effective resources in place for students, faculty and staff who are affected by sexual harassment, discrimination or violence; and implements policies and practices that are prompt, equitable and in compliance with federal mandates, including Title IX.

Laura has a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from Colorado State University and a BA in English, minor in Women's Studies from Gustavus Adolphus College.
