Check back as additional teams will be added to the list!

Organizing Your Club’s Team

  • If you haven’t hosted a Trivia team in the past and you don’t know if there are plans in the works for your area, email alumni-office@carleton.edu, and we will let you know if someone else is making plans or not. If not, plan the event yourself following the simple steps below!
  • Choose a venue at http://www.buzztime.com/site-finder. Enter your zip code in the “find locations near” search box to get a list of bars, restaurants, and other establishments in your area that are part of the Buzztime network.
  • Call the venue to confirm that they will have Buzztime Trivia available during the times posted above.
  • Submit your venue information to the Office of Alumni Relations by filling out the online form.
  • Depending on the size of your club, you may want to reserve one or more tables and a “Playmaker” at your venue. The Playmaker is the computer system that will allow your group to play. For larger groups, you can choose to use one Playmaker for the entire group, or use multiple Playmakers – one at each table. In the case of multiple Playmakers, you’ll report the best score at the end of each game.
  • The Office of Alumni Relations will send out an invitation to alumni and parents in your area in early January and a reminder just before the response deadline.
  • If your club has a Google Group or Facebook page, you might want to consider doing some additional promotion in the days leading up to competition.
  • If you are new to hosting Nationwide Trivia, you might want to stop by your venue to get familiar with the venue and how trivia works.

Setting Up

  • As the host, please arrive at least 10 minutes before the optional warm-up game begins to greet attendees, provide direction on where to sit and how to get Playmakers (if using more than one), and encourage attendees to sign in on the attendance sheet.
  • Scores can be reported by email only. As the host, you can do this or designate someone else to report scores.
  • The Playmaker is the computer system that will allow your group to play. For larger groups, you can choose to use one Playmaker for the entire group, or use multiple Playmakers – one at each table. In the case of multiple Playmakers, you’ll report the best score at the end of each game.
  • Register your team using the Playmaker. Please use a descriptive name such as CC DC for your team, to enable us to easily locate you on the nationwide top scores list! Your team may use more than one Playmaker, but should use similar names for their teams, e.g., CC DC1 & CC DC2.)

Warm-Up

  • Use the first half hour to get organized and play an optional warm-up game of trivia.
  • For the Eastern, Central, and Mountain time zones, the warm-up round will be Countdown Trivia, and for the Pacific time zone, the warm-up round will be Lunchtime Trivia.

Competition

  • Official competition will begin at 2 pm Pacific, 3 pm Mountain, 4 pm Central, and 5 pm Eastern and will consist of 4 games of Countdown Trivia. See below for schedules for each time zone.
  • Each game has 15 questions and lasts for approximately 25 minutes, with short breaks after questions 5 and 10.
  • Remember, time matters! The longer you take to enter your answer, the fewer points you'll receive for a correct answer.

Reporting Your Scores

  • At the end of each game, you will report your score to the Office of Alumni Relations. Please email Krista Herbstrith (kherbstr@carleton.edu) with your score after each round. If you have more than one Playmaker for your club, report only the best score.
  • The Office of Alumni Relations will keep track of points throughout the competition, providing updates on standings after each game. Hosts will receive an email at the end of each game with updated scores, and will also be able to follow the scoring online to see them as they are entered.
  • At the end of trivia, we’ll announce the 2020 Carleton Nationwide Trivia Champions!
