Carleton Connects: Connole and Ottaway on the Public Works Initiative

Join Carleton Connects for an interactive talk with Kelly Connole, Professor of Art, and Susannah Ottaway ’89, Professor of History. As the directors of the college’s Public Works Initiative, they will discuss how it is deepening Carleton faculty and student engagement with diverse communities across Minnesota and around the globe.
About the Speakers
Professor of Art Kelly Connole has taught at Carleton since 2004. Her ceramic art examines relationships between humans, their environment, and other creatures; it has been exhibited nationally and has earned numerous awards, including a McKnight Ceramic Residency and McKnight Fellowship, a Minnesota State Arts Board grant, and a Jerome Foundation Project Grant. She served on the Board of Directors of the Northern Clay Center and has worked closely with our CCCE to coordinate Carleton's Empty Bowls Project for the past 15 years.
Professor of History Susannah Ottaway ’89 has taught at Carleton since 1998. Her scholarship on the history of old age and social welfare has been funded by the American Council of Learned Societies and the Social Science Research Council, and includes a monograph with Cambridge University Press and an 8-volume collection of sources. Her teaching focuses on the social, intellectual, and cultural history of early modern Europe. She is a former director of the Carleton Humanities Center, she serves on the Board of Directors at the Minnesota Humanities Center, and for many years she has connected students at Northfield Middle School with Carleton through the SCOPE program.
