The MCAN Gathering
We write with the very difficult news that the 2012 MCAN Gathering has been cancelled. We deeply appreciate your commitment to attend the Gathering, however after closely monitoring registrations and consulting with campus and MCAN leaders over the past month, we regret that the event has not generated sufficient interest among alumni to ensure a successful gathering, with only 16 registered at this time.
All who have been closely involved in planning the Gathering share in the sense of disappointment this news brings. We hope you will understand that this decision was not made lightly, and was reached after careful consideration of options and taking intentional steps to generate additional interest.
We also hope that those who live in the Twin Cities area will still consider attending the Block Party sponsored by the Office of Intercultural and International Life from 3:00-5:00 Saturday, September 15 in front of the cultural houses on campus (Union Street). This will be a good opportunity to connect with current students over great food and conversation. Please email Naja Shabazz at firstname.lastname@example.org if you’ll be at the Block Party.
We apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience this brings. Everyone registered will receive full reimbursement for registration fees. In addition, those who have purchased airline tickets or have incurred other transportation costs may submit for reimbursement the costs associated with airline change or cancellation fees. To receive reimbursement, after contacting your airline and adjusting your ticket, please send your original ticket receipt and documentation regarding the change fee amount to Naja Shabazz at email@example.com or Carleton College, One North College Street, Northfield MN, 55057.
Margarita Herrera ’08, Board chair, has shared her hope that MCAN alumni will continue to find new ways to reach out to each other, both on campus and through our regional and virtual communities. She and other MCAN board members would appreciate your suggestions for how you would like to engage with MCAN and with Carleton in the future. We hope that you will contact us or any board member (listed below) with your ideas. Your thoughts and feedback will help shape and strengthen how we move forward with future programs.
Please feel free to contact either of us with additional questions you may have.
