Preserving China’s Past: Paintings of the Ming-Qing Dynasties

Sat, January 7, 2017 • Perlman Teaching Museum, Braucher Gallery

Beautiful paintings from China, dating to the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1644 and 1644-1912), on loan from the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery at Scripps College, open the Perlman’s winter season. This exhibition celebrates the art of restoration as well as the range and variety of Chinese painting. Over thirty works from Scripps, a small liberal arts college in southern California, have been successfully conserved in recent years, through grants from the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, as well as the Jean and Arthur Ames Fund.
