What Would Anselm Kiefer Do?

Wed, February 8, 2017 • 4:30pm - 6:00pm (1h 30m) • Boliou 104

The lecture, featuring an art conservator from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, complements the Perlman Teaching Museum exhibition, Preserving China's Past: Paintings of the Ming-Qing Dynasties, featuring newly restored Chinese paintings on loan from Scripps College in California.

The lecture title refers to German artist, Anselm Kiefer, whose large-scale works incorporate ephermeral materials including straw and mud, creating special challenges for conservators who seek not only to preserve works for posterity but also to respect the artists aesthetics, which may accept decay.
