Humanities in Focus - Greil Marcus Lecture

Tue, October 24, 2017 • 7:00pm - 9:00pm (2h) • Kracum Performance Hall

Author, music journalist, and cultural critic Greil Marcus speaks on Bob Dylan’s “Masters of War,” exploring how a bad song travels through time, is taken up by cultural processes of meaning making, and is reinvented in moments of political crisis and critique. The first reviews editor at Rolling Stone magazine, Marcus is author of numerous books on topics such as the history of rock ‘n’ roll, Bob Dylan, and myths about American politics and identity. An American Studies scholar, he has taught at Princeton, Berkeley, the New School, NYU, and Minnesota.
