CLERMONT, Fla. — It was another tough day on the diamond for the Carleton College softball team as the Knights dropped a pair of non-conference games. The day began with a 6-1 loss to University of Chicago and concluded with a 12-4 (6 innings) setback versus Lawrence University. Micaela LaRose (Jr./Waconia, Minn./Holy Family) and Kaitlin Bagley (Sr./Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) paced the Knights with three-hit days.
LaRose tripled and scored on Bagley’s single in the sixth inning for Carleton’s lone tally in the opener. The Maroons scored three times in the second and three more in the sixth.
In the nightcap, Lawrence pushed across two runs in the opening frame before Carleton answered with two tallies in the top of the third. Jenny Ramey (Sr./Cottage Grove, Minn./New Life Academy) reached on an error, stole second, advanced on a sacrifice bunt, and scooted home via wild pitch. After all that running around, she could have just held her ground and walked home when Bagley connected for her fourth career home run later in the frame.
The Vikings re-gained the lead with a two-run homer in the bottom of the stanza only to watch Carleton knot things back up at 4-4 when Ramey delivered a two-run, two-out double in the top of the fourth. Lawrence scored four times in the fifth and four more in the sixth to close out the game.
Carleton’s visit to the Sunshine State concludes with a true doubleheader against University of Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday, March 26. The first game begins at 9 a.m. EDT.
