Knights travel across town to compete in the Manitou Classic

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women’s track and field team took part in the Manitou Classic at St. Olaf College on Wednesday, turning in 11 top-five individual performances.

Three of the top-five finishes were earned by Sid Holder (Fy./West Orange, NJ/Phillips Academy). She was the runner-up in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash with times of 13.07 and 26.24 respectively. Holder’s third top-five performance came in the long jump as she leaped 4.82 meters to finish in fifth place.

Also competing in the long jump was Tonya Piergies (Jr./Kenilworth, Ill./North Shore), who earned second place with a jump of 5.02 meters. She added another second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.39 seconds.

Another hurdler that placed in the top five of her race was Elsa Sandeno (Jr./Bellingham, Wash./ Sehome), who took third place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.53.

In the 1500-meter run Fiona Casey (Fy./Chicago, Ill./Northside) and Abby Sharer (Sr./Millstone Township, NJ./Princeton Day) took third and fourth place respectively with times of 4:55.15 and 4:56.70.

Other top finishes for the Knights were turned in by rookies Maya Hilty (Grand Junction, Colo./Palisade) and Erica Blackett-Thomas (Wellesley Hills, Mass./Wellesley). Hilty earned fifth place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:25.39, while Blackett-Thomas placed fifth in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.48 meters.

Sandeno, Emma Thomley (So./Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls), Hilty, and Casey placed fourth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:14.73.

UP NEXT FOR THE KNIGHTS:

(So./Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) is slated to compete in the 800-meter at the Drake Relays on Thursday, April 26. Emily Kaegi (Sr./Williamstown, Mass./Mount Greylock) was added to the field for the 5000-meter run and will hit the track at Drake Stadium that evening.

The rest of the Knights will head to the Janis Rider Invitational at Macalester College on Saturday, April 28.
