NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College baseball team absorbed a sweep at the hands of rival St. Olaf College on Wednesday at Carlander Stadium. The host Oles only out-hit the Knights, 16-14, but were able to maximize their scoring chances in claiming victories by scores of 4-1 and 9-0. Zane Johann (So./Berkeley, Calif./College Preparatory School) and Griffin Bolte (Sr./Portland, Ore./Lincoln) each had three hits on the day to pace Carleton.

The Oles plated an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning; added a two-out, two-run double in the fourth; and tacked on an insurance tally in the fifth.

The Knights scored their run via doubles by Matt Rubin (Jr./Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake) and Wilson Battle (So./Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline Senior) in the sixth inning.

Carleton’s Tyler Rolland (Sr./Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley) tossed his second complete game of the season but did not receive bountiful run support in seeing his record evened at 3-3. He yielded three earned runs over 6.0 innings of work.

St. Olaf starting pitcher Jake Mathison also went the distance and lowered his season ERA to 2.14, best among MIAC hurlers with as many innings pitched this season.

The Knights left the bases loaded in the top of the first, and the Oles took advantage of the momentum shift to push across two runs in the bottom of the frame. St. Olaf scored six more times in the second inning and added another run in the third.

A trio of Knight relievers combined to surrender only one run over 5.0 innings on the bump.

Bolte went 2-for-3 and reached base three times for Carleton which had at least one runner aboard in every inning.

Carleton will hold its home opener on Saturday, April 28 with a 1 p.m. first pitch against Macalester College. Live video and live stats will be available via Knights Online.
