Trio of Knights headed to NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – Three members of the Carleton College track and field teams are slated to compete at the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. This year’s national meet will be contest on May 24-26 at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

All-American Donson Cook-Gallardo (Sr./Moscow, Idaho/Moscow) will represent the men’s team and will race in the 800-meter run. He was the runner-up at the 2017 national championships.

Senior Damali Britton (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista) and rookie Erica Blackett-Thomas (Wellesley Hills, Mass./Wellesley) are competing in field events for the women’s team. Both are making their first trips to the NCAA Championships, as Britton will take part in the triple jump competition and Blackett-Thomas will participate in the high jump.

The NCAA Championships field is limited to 20 male and 22 female student-athletes in each individual event as well as the top-16 entries in each relay event.

The prelims of the men’s 800-meter run will be held at 5 p.m. CDT on Friday, May 25. Nine runners—the top two from each prelims heat plus the next-best three times—will advance to the finals on Saturday, May 26 at 1:50 p.m. CDT.

The women’s high jump will be contested at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, while Saturday will see the prelims and finals of the women’s triple jump beginning at 11:00 a.m. CDT.
