NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- Carleton College women’s golfer Ziyi Wang ’19 (Beijing City, China/Lighthouse Christian Academy) was selected to the Academic All-America® Division III At-Large Team in voting by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Academic All-America program recognizes excellence in both the classroom and the field of competition. Wang was previously named to the Academic All-District First Team, which advanced her to this year’s national ballot where she was a second-team selection. Carleton student-athletes have now won the Academic All-America award a total of 26 times overall, including 8 first-team selections, 13 second-team picks, and 5 third-teamers. (SEE FULL LIST OF CARLETON HONOREES BELOW.)

As an Asian Studies major, Wang holds a 3.93 cumulative grade point average and is one of only two student-athletes from MIAC schools to earn a spot on the 2018 Academic All-America At-Large Teams.

Wang received the 2018 MIAC Player-of-the-Year Award as she led the conference and set a school record with a 77.30 stroke average. She captured the MIAC Championships individual crown and tallied eight top-10 finishes in nine events during the 2017-18 season, six of those being top-three finishes.

Wang was the best MIAC finisher at the NCAA Championships, as her 22-over par 314 score placed her in a tie for seventh. She helped the Knights place sixth in the team competition at nationals, matching the program’s best finish. Wang is a two-time Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American, three-time WGCA All-Region, and three-time All-MIAC honoree. She is the first Knight golfer, male or female, to compete in three NCAA Championships.

Away from the course, Wang earned the MIAC’s Elite 22 academic award in October and was previously tabbed to the WGCA All-America Scholar team.

While Carleton women’s golfers have earned a total of six Academic All-District awards overall, this is the first time that a member of the program garnered Academic All-America recognition.

CoSIDA’s Academic All-America program annually honors student-athletes who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Eligible sports for women's at-large consideration include beach volleyball, bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, and water polo.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at her current institution and be nominated the college’s sports information director. Academic All-District nominees are voted on by CoSIDA members from the individual’s respective district.
