No. 19 Knights take second at NCAA Central Region Championships

WAVERLY, Iowa – The No. 19-ranked Carleton College men’s cross country team finished second at the NCAA Central Region Championships, earning the Knights an automatic berth at next week’s national championships. Tris Dodge (Sr./Oakland, Calif./College Prep) and Lucas Mueller (So./St. Paul, Minn./Nova Classical Academy) finished 1-2 in a field of 210 runners to pace four Carleton runners that claimed All-Region distinction.

No. 17 Wartburg College won the team competition with 52 points, grabbing the region’s other automatic mid to the NCAA Championships. Carleton was next at 88 followed by No. 21 St. Olaf College at 138. University of St. Thomas (141) and Loras College (154) rounded out the top five.

Dodge posted a time of 24:51.3, just ahead of Mueller, who completed the eight-kilometer trek in 24:55.0.

Cameron Meikle (Jr./Hamilton, Mont./Hamilton) placed ninth overall with a time of 25:14.3, making Carleton the lone school to place a trio of runners inside the top 10. Matt Wilkinson (So./Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) grabbed 28th place (25:37.1) to secure All-Region recognition.

Adam Nakasaka (Fy./Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) rounded out the scoring for the Knights, finishing 48th overall with a time of 26:00.9.

First-years Stephen Lavey (Cedar Grove, Wis./Cedar Grove-Belgium) and Ben Santos (Boulder, Colo./Boulder) crossed the line 74th and 79th, respectively as they notched finishing times of 26:34.3 and 26:38.3.

The Knights race next Saturday at the 32-team NCAA Division III Championships to be held in Winneconne, Wis. That race starts at 12 p.m. CT.
