Knights wrap up regular season at U of M meet

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Carleton College women’s track and field team appears to be peaking at the right time as the Knights posted several personal bests during the University of Minnesota’s Parents Day Open, which serves as the final tune-up before next week’s MIAC Indoor Championships.

Amanda Mosborg (So./Edina, Minn./Edina) established a personal best with her time of 3:05.18 in the 1000-meter run. That was good for second place at a meet which featured included one NCAA Division I program (Minnesota), a trio of D-II squads (Concordia-St. Paul, Minnesota-Duluth, and St. Cloud State), and several Division III programs.

Elsa Sandeno (Sr./Bellingham, Wash./Sehome) crossed the line sixth out of 26 runners in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:39.84, establishing a new personal record.

Emma Greenlee (So./Aurora, Minn./Mesabi East) was top D-III runner and placed eighth overall in the 3000-meter run with a personal-best time of 10:26.43

Other top-eight results for the Knights include:
• Helen Schuda (Jr./Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) finished fourth out of 42 racers in the mile (5:19.63).
• Carleton’s 4x400 relay comprised of Sandeno, Annalise Peebles (Jr./Neenah, Wis./Appleton), Amy Kropp (Fy./Logan, Utah/Logan), and Emma Thomley (Jr./Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) crossed the line fourth with a season-best time of 4:13.91.
• Erica Blackett-Thomas (So./Wellesley Hills, Mass./Wellesley) claimed fourth place in the high jump after clearing a season-best 1.58 meters.
• Multi-eventer Tonya Piergies (Sr./Kenilworth, Ill./North Shore) was seventh in both the 60-meter hurdles 10.27 and seventh in the long jump at 4.84 meters.

The Knights will now turn their full attention to the MIAC Indoor Championships to be contested Feb. 21-23 at St. Olaf.
