Knights stung twice by Yellowjackets

TUCSON, Ariz. – On Friday, the Carleton College baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against UW-Superior, falling by scores of 15-4 and 9-4.

GAME 1 RECAP
The Yellowjackets (4-5) opened the scoring with a five-run third inning and put the game out of reach by pushing across eight more runs in the sixth inning.

Shortstop Josh Small (Jr./Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) led the Carleton lineup with his 2-for-3 day including a RBI. Centerfielder Vince Cone (Fy./New York, N.Y./Trinity School) contributed a two-run double.

GAME 2 RECAP
Carleton (0-3) was unable to hold onto early leads of 2-0 and 3-1 as UW-Superior rallied for a trio of runs in the fifth and added four more in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Knights’ corner infielders, rookies Paul Hinton (Fy./Omaha, Neb./Millard Prep) and Sam Schur (Fy./Calabasas, Calif./Viewpoint), both went 2-for-4. Six other players added hits for Carleton.

Carleton will play a nine-inning game versus Concordia University Wisconsin on Sunday, March 24. First pitch is slated for 10:00 a.m. MST/12:00 p.m. CDT.
