HOUSTON, Texas – The top-ranked Carleton College women’s golf team opened the 2019 portion of its schedule with a dual match victory over University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Ayumi Sakamoto (Sr./Honolulu, Hawaii/ʻIolani School) paced the Knights with a two-day total of 155 (+11).

The two-day event was held at Bay Oaks Country Club, the site of the upcoming 2019 NCAA Championships.

Sakamoto was the lone player for either team to break 80 on day one as she carded a 76. She followed that up with a 79 on Sunday and tied for the top spot on the overall leaderboard with the UMHB’s Olivia Robinson, who recovered from an opening-round 82 with a second-round 73. Robinson won the tiebreaker for medalist honors by having a lower score on the course's toughest hole.

Alexis Chan (So./Castle Rock, Colo./Rock Canyon) turned in Carleton’s second-best score for the weekend, finishing third overall (80-79=159, +15). Alyssa Akiyama (Jr./Terrace Park, Ohio/Seven Hills School) posted the Knights’ top score on Sunday (86+77=163, +19) and placed fourth overall.

Abby Euyang (So./Seattle, Wash./Lakeside) contributed to the Knights’ scoring total with an 81 in the first round (81+89=170, +26), while Ziyi Wang (Sr./Beijing City, China/Lighthouse Christian Academy) did likewise on Sunday (83+82=165, +21).

First-years Kristin Miyagi (Honolulu, Hawaii/'Iolani School) and Ananya Shah (Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata) played the event as individuals. Miyagi (89+90=179, +35) finished 12th and Shah (95+91=186, +42) tied for 13th.
