HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Carleton College men’s tennis team ran its win streak to a dozen matches with victories over a pair of tough opponents on Monday. In a matchup of nationally-ranked programs, the No. 39 Knights bested No. 37 Oberlin by an 8-1 margin. Carleton then handed Union (NY) College its first setback of the season with a 7-2 result. The Knights improved their overall record to 14-1 this season with two victories.

Aaron Goodman (Sr./Minneapolis, Minn./St. Louis Park), Jonas Lindholm-Uzzi (Jr./Germantown, N.Y./Red Hook), Leo Vithoontien (So./Bangkok, Thailand/Bangkok Patana School), and Xander Zuczek (So./Westerly, R.I./St. Bernard) each secured three victories on the day.

“Playing a doubleheader against two accomplished opponents tested our logistical skills and our stamina,” said Carleton head coach Stephan Zweifel. “We were busier than a waxing spa before a Kardashian family reunion.”

Against Oberlin, the Knight set the tone by sweeping doubles. Goodman and Zuczek prevailed 8-2 at the second spot, while the nationally-ranked tandem of Jordon O'Kelly (Sr./Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and Vithoontien dispatched their opponents by an 8-3 tally. Lindholm-Uzzi and William Walsh (Fy./San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) added an 8-4 decision at the third slot.

After moving to singles, Zuczek quickly notched a 6-1, 6-1 decision. Xander Roti (Fy./Locust Valley, N.Y./Friends Academy) clinched the team result with his 6-0, 6-2 victory. Vitoontien and Walsh similarly contributed straight-set victories. The other two matches required super tiebreakers, with Goodman prevailing at third singles, while Oberlin picked up its lone point at fifth singles.

Carleton found the going tougher at the start of the day’s second match. Goodman and Vitoontien paired up for the second time in their careers and pulled out a 10-7 tiebreaker to win their first doubles match by a 10-7 tally. Lindholm-Uzzi and Sahil Chhugani (Jr./Rochester, Minn./Century) teamed up for an 8-6 victory at the second slot, while Lewis White (Jr./Minneapolis, Minn./Breck) and Christof Zweifel (So./Northfield, Minn./Northfield) added to the Knights’ lead with their 8-3 triumph.

Zuczek, Roti, Lindholm-Uzzi, and Johnny Reichman (Sr./Shavano Park, Texas/Clark) each won their singles matches in straight sets. The Dutchmen rallied from a set down to win super tiebreakers at both third and fourth singles.

Carleton plays its final South Carolina match on Tuesday, March 26 when the Knights face DePauw University at 10:00 a.m. EDT.
