MORRIS, Minn. – Knowing there was no reason to store up hits at this point of the year, the Carleton College baseball team unleashed its top offensive output of the season, rolling to a 17-3 (7 inning) triumph at University of Minnesota-Morris in the season finale for both squads.

Carleton put together its highest scoring output since a 21-10 victory over Colby College on March 22, 2016.

Eleven different Knights had base hits in this one, including a game-high three safeties for first-years Paul Hinton (Omaha, Neb./Millard Prep) and Cam Brown (Chapel Hill, N.C./Durham Academy). Vince Cone (Fy./New York, N.Y./Trinity School) was the only other Carleton player with a multi-hit stat line, as he went 2-for-3 with a game-high four RBI.

Carleton opened the game with a six-run rally in the top of the first and added five more runs in the third inning. The Cougars got three combined runs back in the fourth and fifth frames, but the Knights pushed across another tally in the sixth and plated five more runs in the seventh to close out the victory.

Peter Hoffman (Fy./West Harrison, N.Y./Iona Prep), who tied for the MIAC lead with five saves during the regular season, got the starting nod and notched his first collegiate victory with 6.0 solid innings. He gave up two earned runs on eight hits but did not issue a walk and struck out three.

The Knights closed the campaign with a 13-21 record, and this contest closed the collegiate careers of seniors Brendon Fischel (Eureka, Calif./Eureka), Austin Heuer (Elk River, Minn./Elk River), and Matt Rubin (Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake). That trio reached base in five of six plate appearances.
