BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Carleton College sophomore Austin Heuer (Elk River, Minn.) was selected as the MIAC Pitcher-of-the-Week following a stellar performance against Macalester College. The right-hander becomes the first Carleton hurler earn the conference’s weekly award since 2015.
Heuer limited the Scots, who entered that game hitting a MIAC-best .338 as a team, to only two hits—both of them singles—in the Knights’ 1-0 victory last Tuesday. He earned his first career complete-game shutout by striking out a career-best eight batters against only one walk, while matching his career-best with 7.0 innings pitched.
After a hit and a Knight defensive miscue put two runners aboard in the top of the first inning, Heuer retired 14 of the next 16 batters he faced to shut down a Macalester offense that averages 7.96 runs per game (second among MIAC teams) this season.
