BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- Matt Stamets (Fy./Bloomington, Ill./University) was selected as the MIAC Pitcher-of-the-Week following a trio of effective appearances, including a spectacular first career start.

The rookie yielded only an unearned run on 4 hits over 9.2 innings with 18 strikeouts last week as he limited opponents to a .125 batting average (4-for-32) over his three appearances.

After beginning his rookie season with six relief appearances—including 2.0 hitless frames against Augsburg on May 1—Stamets made his first collegiate start on May 3 and turned in a dominating performance.

The lefthander accumulated 16 strikeouts as he tossed a 3-hit complete game to earn his first collegiate win, a 2-1 triumph over Martin Luther College. He struck out the side in the second, fourth, and sixth innings. The 16 Ks tie Stamets for fourth in NCAA Division III this season and are the most by a MIAC pitcher since at least the 2013 season.
