NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Last week, Kevin Johnson (Jr./St. Anthony, Minn./DeLaSalle) put his name into the Carleton College record books as he pitched the first 5.0 innings of a combined no-hitter. This week, he makes history once again, as the first Knight named to the D3baseball.com national team-of-the-week.
The infielder-pitcher starred in both ends of a doubleheader sweep of Crown College on Feb. 12. His first career outing as a starting pitcher was a memorable one. The winning pitcher in game two, he faced the minimum over his 5.0 innings of work and collected five strikeouts. A pair of relievers finished up the no-hitter.
At the plate he was 2-for-4, reaching base seven times on the day. Johnson scored six runs, while driving home five others.
The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its second season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors.
The Knights continue their early-season schedule with a doubleheader against Bethany Lutheran College on Wednesday, Feb. 20. First pitch from the Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis is slated for 7:30 p.m. Knights Online expects to carry live audio of both contests.
