MINNEAPOLIS – The offense erupted for 26 runs over the two games and the pitching staff held the opposition in check much of the night as the Carleton College baseball team swept Crown College and evened its season record. The Knights prevailed by scores of 15-2 and 11-3.

The Knights (2-2) went a combined 27-for-65 (.415) at the plate during the doubleheader. Carleton totaled 26 runs, its highest scoring output for a twin bill since plating 27 runs against Colby College on March 22, 2016

Griffin Bolte (Sr./Portland, Ore./Lincoln) continued his early season hitting tear, going 5-for-9 during the two games versus Crown. Amazingly, that performance actually lowered his season batting average to .563.

Zane Johann (So./Berkeley, Calif./College Preparatory School) and Josh Small (So./Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) both collected four hits on the night, while the trio of Blake Anderson (Fy./Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria), Wilson Battle (So./Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline Senior), and Matt Rubin (Jr./Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake) accounted for three hits apiece.

In the opener, starting pitcher Austin Heuer (Jr./Elk River, Minn./Elk River) surrendered only one earned run and collected three strikeouts over his 3.0 innings on the bump. Ben Frerichs (Sr./Alexandria, Va./St. Stephens and St. Agnes) tossed 3.0 scoreless frames of one-hit relief with four strikeouts and was credited with the victory.

Tyler Rolland (Sr./Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley) worked 5.0 frames of one-run ball in the nightcap as he leveled his season record at 1-1.

Carleton’s next game action will come in a doubleheader against Framingham State University on Saturday, March 17. Those games will open the Knights’ weeklong visit to Tucson, Arizona.
