TUCSON, Ariz. – Josh Small (So./Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley), Griffin Bolte (Sr./Portland, Ore./Lincoln), and Brendon Fischel (Jr./Eureka, Calif./Eureka) each had three hits as the Carleton College baseball team completed its Spring Break trip to Arizona with a 5-4 victory over Wesleyan (Conn.) University.

The Knights had several chances to blow the game open, but they stranded 15 runners overall, including eight in scoring position.

After surrendering two quick runs in the top of the first, Carleton starting pitcher Austin Heuer (Jr./Elk River, Minn./Elk River) settled in. Meanwhile, run-scoring hits by Bolte, Yash Muley (So./Paradise Valley, Ariz./Phoenix Country Day School), Zane Johann (So./Berkeley, Calif./College Preparatory School), and Wilson Battle (So./Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline Senior) helped Carleton build a 5-2 lead.

The Cardinals made things interesting when they pushed across two runs in the seventh and had the tying and go-ahead runs aboard with only one out. Tyler Rolland (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley) emerged from the Carleton bullpen, and the senior righthander retired the next two batters to escape the jam. Overall, he tossed 2.2 frames of scoreless one-hitrelief to close out the victory and notch his first career save.

Heuer struck out five over his 6.1 innings on the bump and picked up the win to level his record at 1-1 on the year.

Carleton went 5-2 during its time at the Tucson Invitational, batting a combined .384 over that stretch.
