Knights End Spring Trip with a Bang, Top Middlebury, 14-3

TUCSON, Ariz. – Three days after dropping a 19-8 decision to Middlebury College, the Carleton College baseball team exacted revenge, downing the Panthers, 14-3. The Knights (8-6) gave Middlebury a heavy dose of small ball, racking up 21 hits with only two going for extra bases. The first three hitters of the lineup produced 11 hits and scored seven times to support starting pitcher Jack Violetta’s (Fy./Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) strong performance on the mound. He went 5.0 innings, allowing three earned runs, and striking out three to pick up his first collegiate victory.

Out of the leadoff spot, Jeff Dsida (Jr./Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) recorded his second consecutive four-hit game, belted his first collegiate home run, and scored four times. David Stillerman (Jr./Evanston, Ill./Evanston) went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs scored, and Hayden Tsutsui (Fy./Northridge, Calif./Chatsworth) continued his impressive rookie campaign with his ninth consecutive multi-hit day, this one being his fourth game of the trip with at least four hits. Cody Bohlman (Fy./Irvine, Calif./University) also contributed three hits. He reached base in four of his five plate appearances and added three runs to the stat sheet.

Thaddaeus Gregory (So./Seattle, Wash./University Prep) relieved Violetta after the fifth inning, holding the Panthers (2-5) to three scoreless frames, while striking out three. Jukie Tsai (Jr./New York, N.Y./Friends Seminary) pitched the final inning to secure the victory for Carleton.

This marks the end of the Knights’ spring trip. Carleton finished the stretch with a 4-5 record, concluding the trip with three straight victories. In their four wins, the Knights tallied an incredible 63 runs, while raising their season batting average above the .350 mark.

Carleton was scheduled to return to action on Saturday, March 30 with its first conference contests at Concordia-Moorhead. However, Mother Nature had other plans, at the games have been postponed. Check Knights Online for the latest schedule information throughout the spring season.
