NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The Carleton College football team dropped its MIAC opener to No. 10-ranked University of St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon.

The Tommies (2-1, 1-0 MIAC) got off to a blistering start, scoring touchdowns on five of their first six possessions of the game.

Carleton (0-3, 0-1 MIAC) were able to move the ball on offense in the first half, however, turnovers killed the Knights’ momentum, as they reached the red zone on multiple occasions but were unable to put points on the scoreboard and went into the half trailing, 42-0.

The Tommies added three more touchdowns in the second half to bring the game to its final score of 63-0 in favor of the visitors.

Defensively, Merrick Ducharme (Sr./Blooming Prairie, Minn./Hayfield) led the way for the Knights with a game-high 15 tackles on the day and was in on one of the Knights’ three sacks. Kwaku Bodom (Jr./Brooklyn Park, Minn./Breck) added nine tackles, while Eric Pacynski (So./Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame College Prep) and Eric McGregor (Jr./Ellsworth, Wis./Ellsworth) both added eight tackles and a pass breakup.

There were some big plays to be had in the Carleton passing as Christian Zaytoun (Jr./Raleigh, N.C./Woodberry Forest) connected with Mark Leedy (Jr./Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) on a 44-yard toss, and Emanual Williams (So./Lovelady, Texas/Lovelady) hauled in a 28-yarder.

The Knights are home once again next Saturday, Sept. 23 as they take on Augsburg University at 1:00 p.m. Knights Online will provide live video and stats, and the game can also be heard on KQCL 95.9 FM in the Northfield/Faribault area.
