NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The rushing attack of Bethel University proved too much for the Carleton College football team to stop as the Knights dropped a 48-0 result at Laird Stadium.

Bethel (4-0, 2-0 MIAC) ran the ball 55 times, amassing 245 yards to finish the day with 398 yards of total offense. The visitors enjoyed a 13-minute advantage in time of possession. Carleton (1-4, 0-3 MIAC), meanwhile, registered 135 yards on offense.

Royals quarterback Jaran Roste, a transfer from the University of Minnesota, totaled 102 rushing yards on 13 carries and reached the end zone four times on the afternoon. He also was 8-of-16 in the passing game for 123 yards. The Royals took the opening kickoff and marched 70 yards on 11 plays, capped by Roste’s 14-yard touchdown run. The Royal signal caller broke off a 48-yard scoring scamper as the first quarter expired. He added a 1-yard plunge shortly before halftime and a 2-yard dive early in the third quarter.

Bethel notched a pair of defensive touchdowns on the day as Kyle Peach and Dawson Brown both had interception returns for touchdowns to help widen the scoring gap.

Knights’ quarterback Christian Zaytoun (Sr./Raleigh, N.C./Woodberry Forest) was 29-for-57 for a season-low 145 yards.

Peter Hagstrom (Jr./Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee), Jay Na (Jr./San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep), and Tom Rubino (So./Monaca, Penn./Kiski) led the Carleton defense as the trio factored in 13, 11, and 10 tackles, respectively. Na also had Carleton’s lone takeaway, recovering a fumble in the fourth quarter.

The Knights will look to bounce back when they host Hamline University on Saturday, Oct. 6. The Homecoming contest will begin at 1 p.m. and live video and live stats will be available via Knights Online.
