MOORHEAD, Minn. – With snow falling and winds gusting up to 30mph, the Carleton College football team struggled to get its passing game going and dropped the season finale, 51-14, at Concordia College-Moorhead.

Travis Brown (So./St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) provided the biggest highlight for the Knights (3-7, 2-6 MIAC) when he returned a fourth-quarter punt for a touchdown. It was Carleton’s first punt return for a score since Oct. 11, 2008. He also finished with a game-high 15 tackles and forced a fumble.

The Cobbers (5-5, 4-4 MIAC) threw for only 25 yards but used their running game to control the clock as Concordia enjoyed a better than two-to-one advantage in time of possession. The hosts ran the ball 71 times. The Cobbers found the end zone on their first five possessions and never looked back.

Carleton’s first points came late in the first quarter as Christian Zaytoun (Sr./Raleigh, N.C./Woodberry Forest) connected with Beau Nelson (Fy./San Diego, Calif./Westview) on a two-yard scoring toss late in the first half. That was the 27th touchdown pass of the season for Zaytoun which ranks second in Carleton history.

Brown’s punt return closed the game’s scoring early in the fourth quarter.

Zaytoun concluded the year with 2,261 passing yards to climb into third place on Carleton’s single-season chart. He also became the fourth quarterback in team annals to total at least 40 career touchdown passes.

Mack Journell (Jr./Stevens Point, Wis./Stevens Point) had two more receptions and improved his season total to 67 catches, the fourth-best single season mark in team history.

Saturday’s contest also brought down the curtain on the collegiate careers of the 14 seniors on the Carleton roster: Kwaku Bodom (Sr./Brooklyn Park, Minn./Breck); Michael Bruno (Sr./Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg); Josh Crotts (Sr./Ruskin, Fla./Mooresville); Fernando Dominguez (Sr./Las Vegas, Nev./Liberty); Spencer Francis (Sr./Hartland, Wis./Brookfield Academy); Matt Ganter (Sr./Maple Grove, Minn./Minnehaha Academy); Jacob Heath (Sr./Oshkosh, Wis./Oshkosh West); Marcus Irrthum (Sr./Wanamingo, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo); Henry Liedl (Sr./Breezy Point, Minn./Pequot Lakes); Eric McGregor (Sr./Ellsworth, Wis./Ellsworth); Dylan Rye (Sr./Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow); Andy Tangen (Sr./Minneapolis, Minn./Minnehaha Academy); Zach Trottier (Sr./Pequot Lakes, Minn./Pequot Lakes), and Zaytoun.
