D3hoops.comNORTHFIELD, Minn. – Following a spectacular all-around senior season, Carleton College forward Taylor Hanson (Saint Paul, Minn./Minnehaha Academy) was named to the All-West Region Third Team. Hanson becomes the seventh Carleton men’s basketball player to be named to the all-region team, and is the 12th Carleton men’s basketball player selected to any All-Region squad, with that group accumulating a total of 18 such honors.

While his numbers even surpassed these levels, Hanson was the only player in the West Region to average more than 7.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game, and is one of only two NCAA Division III players across the nation to average more than 15.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists while shooting better than .500 from the field this season. He is also the first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference player to accomplish that feat in at least 12 seasons.

Hanson paced the MIAC and was fifth in the region with 9.2 rebounds per game and finished fourth in the conference in scoring (15.5 points) and fifth in assists (3.9). His .516 field-goal percentage ranked third among conference players with more than 250 attempts. Hanson accumulated seven double-doubles during the season, including a career-best 34 points in a road win at Macalester on Jan. 20, the most points by a Knight in five seasons.

Playing a full-season for the first-time in his career at Carleton, Hanson turned in one of the best all-around seasons in college hoops. Two weeks ago he was voted to the All-MIAC first team and was also tabbed as a member of the conference’s five-person All-Defensive team. Hanson finished the season ranked seventh among MIAC players in steals and 12th in blocks during conference games.

Some of Hanson’s best games this season came against the top teams in the region, as he averaged 15.3 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists in four games versus NCAA tournament teams. With both players going head-to-head for the full 40 minutes, Hanson held the MIAC’s player-of-the-year and West Region First-Team selection, Augsburg’s Dan Kornbaum, to a season-low eight points during their Feb. 19 matchup. It was not uncommon to see Hanson log extended playing time as he ranked second in the MIAC with 35.0 minutes played per night.

Hanson was previously named to the Capital One Academic All-District team at the conclusion of the season and was named as the MIAC Athlete of the Week on Dec. 2.
