KANSAS CITY – Following another spectacular all-around season, Carleton College forward Kevin Grow (Jr./Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial) was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches’ (NABC) All-West District team after being selected by member coaches of the NABC in NCAA Division III.
This the 10th All-District or All-Region award for the Carleton men’s basketball program since the 2008 and the third consecutive year that Grow received some form of All-District/All-Region distinction. He was previously voted to the D3hoops.com All-West Region squad for 2015-16 and was named the D3hoops.com West Region Rookie-of-the-Year in 2014-15. Grow joins Jim Tolf ’85, Josh Wilhelm ’99, and Zach Johnson ’09 as the only Knights to earn All-District/All-Region distinction for multiple seasons.
During the 2016-17 season, Grow was one of only eight Division III players—and only one from the West Region—to average at least 14.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, and 1.5 assists per game. He and his teammates put together a 13-game win streak that moved the Knights from 10th to third in the conference standings and their first postseason appearance since 2012-13.
He was voted to both the All-MIAC First Team and conference’s All-Defensive team for second consecutive season. Grow led the MIAC and ranked third in the West Region in both rebounds and double-doubles (11). He also ranked second in the MIAC and fourth in the West Region for blocked shots with 46 rejections this season.
He averaged 14.4 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.7 blocks for the season and connected on 51 percent of his field-goal attempts. Grow posted even better figures during six games versus opponents that qualified for the NCAA Championships. In those half-dozen contests, he averaged 15.5 points, 10.7 rebounds, 1.83 blocks, and 1.3 steals while shooting .528 from the field. This included a had 25-rebound game against MIAC co-champion St. Thomas, the third-highest single-game total in D-III this season, and a 30-point, 15-rebound game versus the other co-champ, Bethel.
Grow is Carleton’s career leader in blocked shots (157) and ranks 18th among active Division III players. Over his first three seasons with the Knights, he has totaled 973 points and 722 rebounds. Early in the 2017-18 campaign, he should become the 24th member of the 1,000-point club. Grow already ranks sixth on the school’s all-time rebounding list.
Grow was one of three MIAC players honored by the NABC this season, joining St. Thomas guard Grant Schaefer and Bethel guard Trevor Hall on the 11-player list.
