NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Kent Hanson (So./St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) scored Carleton College’s first 14 points of the second half as the Knights pulled away from Saint Mary’s to claim an 87-68 victory. The win moved Carleton into a tie for second place in the MIAC standings.

The Knights (9-6, 7-3 MIAC) shot 55 percent prior to halftime but owned only a 34-30 lead at intermission. Behind Hanson’s quick start, Carleton shot 68 percent in the second half and exploded for 53 points after the break.

Saint Mary’s (1-14, 0-10 MIAC) received a career-best 20 points from Sawyer Rosner and an 18-point effort from guard James Cullen, but the Cardinals had had no answer for the Knights advantage on the inside where Carleton finished with a 60-30 edge for points in the paint.

Kevin Grow (Sr./Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial) poured in a game-high 22 points for Carleton, and Hanson scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half. Meanwhile, backup forward Ryan Casperson (Sr./Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) came off the bench for 11 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Quinn Johnson (Jr./Roseville, Minn./Roseville) was the fourth Knight in double figures at 10 points after going 5-of-5 from the field.

Carleton finished the game shooting .614 overall, the seventh-highest percentage in recorded team history.

The Knights will put their win streak on the line as they host Bethel University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20.
