By Eric Sieger

Kyle Beste (So./St. Louis Park, Minn.) led Carleton College in scoring for the third straight game, tallying 20 points as the Knights edged host St. Mary’s University, 71-60.

The win, Carleton’s fourth straight and seventh in its last eight outings, pushed the Knights into a first-place tie with Bethel College in the MIAC standings. The Knights are one-half game ahead of the University of St. Thomas and Gustavus Adolphus College, who are tied at 4-1 in MIAC play. The Gusties were beaten on their home floor by Macalester College, while St. Olaf College lost at home to St. John’s University. St. Thomas and Gustavus face each other on Wednesday, Jan. 8.

Dan Forkrud (Fy./Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Rosemount) added 16 points and a team-high seven rebounds for Carleton (8-3, 5-1 MIAC). Anthony Baquero (So./Rosemount, Minn.) was also in double figures with 11 points and Tanner Schieck (Jr./Austin, Minn.) chipped in 10 points.
