MANKATO, Minn. – The Carleton College men’s basketball team went cold from three-point range in dropping an 82-69 result at Bethany Lutheran College. The Knights went just 2-of-18 from beyond the arc while the hosts were 10-of-20 from the outside.

Carleton (6-3) opened the game hot—hitting its first four shots of the game including a three-pointer by Quinn Johnson (Jr./Roseville, Minn./Roseville)—but the Knights trailed 42-37 at the break despite shooting 56 percent overall over the opening period. Carleton cooled in the second half, connecting at a 39 percent rate after intermission, and finished the contest with a 46.7 percent field-goal percentage, their second-lowest of the season.

Meanwhile, Bethany Lutheran (7-5) shot better than 53 percent in both halves and finished at 53.4 percent overall. That’s the best figure an opponent has posted against the Carleton defense since Feb. 13, 2016.

Ryan Casperson (Sr./Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) Carleton a 33-27 lead with his jumper at the 6:07 mark of the first half. The Vikings closed the stanza on a 15-3 run, however, and did not trail during the second half.

Kent Hanson (So./St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) finished with a game-high 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting. Kevin Grow (Sr./Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial) notched his eighth double-double of the season for Carleton with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Johnson was the third Knight in double figures, tallying 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting.

Five Vikings finished in double figures, with Neil Eichten leading the way with 15 points.

Carleton will open the 2018 portion of the schedule on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at Gustavus Adolphus College with a 7 p.m. tipoff. Live audio can be heard on KDHL 920AM in the Northfield/Faribault area and worldwide via Knights Online.
