NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The Carleton College men’s cross country team turned in its third strong finish in as many weeks, racing to a third-place team result at the St Olaf Invitational. Hart Hornor (So./Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) notched another top-five finish, completing the course in a time of 25:15.7 to lead the Knights.

“This was a good measure today for where we are as a team, and we are really excited,” said Carleton head coach Dave Ricks. “Great team racing by our guys, helping each other.”

Host St. Olaf won the team competition with 52 points with NCAA Division II program University of Sioux Falls taking second with 84 points. Carleton (103) edged University of St. Thomas (117) for third place. The Knights finished ahead of the entries from two D-II programs, Minnesota-Mankato and St. Cloud State.

Hornor placed fourth, and Marcus Huderle (Sr./Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) also had another outstanding race with his 11th place time of 25:45.7. Jacob Hoerger (Sr./Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) also ran strong, taking 21st out of 272 competitors with 26:16.7.

Also finishing in the top 40 for the Knights were Thor Laack-Veeder (Jr./Madison, Wis./LaFollette) and Noah Laack-Veeder (Jr./Madison, Wis./LaFollette). The twins ran the race in 26:48.9 and 26:57.9 to round out the team scoring. Joe Haase (So./Madison, Wis./Madison West) edged teammate Guthrie Cunningham (Sr./Finland, Minn./Duluth East) 27:01.7 to 27:01.9 to complete the top seven finishers for Carleton.

The Knights will get a well-deserved rest, taking off until Friday, Oct 4 when they will run at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugold Open.
