SIOUX FALLS, S.D.— The Carleton College men’s cross country team earned a sixth-place result out of 26 squads competing at the Augustana Twilight, the season-opening race under the lights at Yankton Trail Park.

Sioux Falls (D-II) won the team competition with 55 points, followed closely by D-I teams form South Dakota (72 points) and Nebraska (84 points). Two other D-II programs held down the next two spots, with host Augustana totaling 85 points followed by Nebraska-Kerney (169) points and Carleton (173).

Donson Cook-Gallardo (Sr./Moscow, Idaho/Moscow) was the top finisher for the Knights, placing ninth overall with a time of 19:58.55. He was the lone D-III runner to post a top-40 result in the field of 280 runners, which included a pair of Division I programs—South Dakota and Nebraska—and seven D-II squads.

Lucas Mueller (Fy./St. Paul, Minn./Nova Classical Academy) made his collegiate debut and also garnered a top-20 result, taking 17th with a time of 20:05.37.

Cameron Meikle (So./Hamilton, Mont./Hamilton) and Matt Wilkinson (Fy./Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) crossed the line 43rd and 46th with times of 20:32.78 and 20:34.88, respectively.

Hiroshi Nakajima (Sr./Minato, Japan/Tabor Academy) rounded out the scoring for the Knights, clocking a time of 21:19.52, while Andrew Ruvkun (Sr./New York, N.Y./Packer Collegiate Institute) posted a time of 22:41.04.

Carleton competes next on Friday, Sept. 8 at the UW-River Falls Falcon Invite.
