EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - Riding the second-place finish of sophomore Lucas Mueller (St. Paul, Minn./Nova Classical Academy), the Carleton College men’s cross country team secured a fourth-place result at the 29-team UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational.

“We made a lot of progress over the past two weeks and hope to continue that upward trajectory,” said Carleton head coach Dave Ricks. “The meet was a lot of fun, racing on a beautiful fall day.”

No. 22-ranked UW-Stout won the meet with 75 points. Then, it was No. 18 St. Olaf (82), unranked UW-Eau Claire (111), and No. 10-ranked Carleton (112). No. 27-ranked UW-Stevens Point took fifth place with 134 points. This was the first time this season that the Knights had all of their top guys racing on the same weekend.

Mueller was edged out for first in the field of roughly 430 runners by Patrick Treacy of host UW-Eau Claire, who eclipsed the finish line a mere 1.7 seconds before the Carleton sophomore. Mueller passed UWEC alumnus and 2017 national champ Darin Lau in the last few meters of the race.

Second in the chute for Carleton was Tris Dodge (Sr./Oakland, Calif./College Prep), who notched a ninth-place finish (25:00.8).

Matthew Wilkinson (So./Minnetonka, Minn.) was the third Knight in, as he secured a 16th-place result (25:23.2). He was followed by Stephen Lavey (Fy./Cedar Grove, Wis./Cedar Grove-Belgium), who boasted a time of 26:06.9, good for 41st place. Rounding out the scoring for Carleton was Cameron Meikle (Jr./Hamilton, Mont.). He crossed the end line in 26:15.3 (51st place).

Coming in the sixth and seventh spots for the Knights were Adam Nakasaka (Fy./Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) and Ben Santos (Fy./Boulder, Colo.), who took 65th (26:32.5) and 70th (26:35.4), respectively.

The Knights’ next scheduled competition is slated for Saturday, Oct. 13 at the UW-Oshkosh Kollege Town Sports Invitational. That race will be run on the same course as the upcoming 2018 NCAA Championships.
