HAM LAKE, Minn. – On a day that began with heavy rain, a lightning delay, and strong gusts of wind, the Carleton College men’s golf team battled the elements to finish 13th at the 18-team season-opening Augsburg Fall Invitational.

After shooting 309 on Saturday, the conditions on Sunday led to the Knights posting a final-round score of 317

In the first round, Carleton was led by the strong play of seniors Avery Tribus (Madison, Wis./Edgewood) and Sam Reategui (Highland Park, Ill./North Shore), who both came in with 3-over par 75’s. The latter’s score was a new career best.

David Perl (Sr./Glencoe, IL/New Trier) finished with a score of 79, and Peter Gullickson (So./Minneapolis, Minn./Blake School) rounded the Carleton scoring with an 80.

Perl led the Knights in the final round, turning in a solid round at 3-over-par 75 to move up 17 spots in the standings. Tribus had another strong showing as he carded a 79 and matched Perl’s two-day total of 154.

The team’s scoring was rounded out by senior Brendon Fischel (Eureka, Calif./Eureka) who fired a career best 81, and Reategui, who finished with an 82.

Playing as an individual, Aaron Sparby (Sr./Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) bettered his first round total by five shots to shoot a 79 on Sunday.

The Knights will look to build on this performance when head northwest for the Cobbler Fall Invitational to be played on Sept. 8-9 at Wildflower Golf Course in Detroit Lakes, Minn.
