DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – The Carleton College men’s golf team sat in fifth place when play concluded at the Cobber Fall Invitational. The Knights shot 319 on day and improved on Sunday, carding a 315 at Wildflower Golf Course.

“I was overall very encouraged by our progress and look forward to the next match with St. Olaf and Macalaster this coming weekend,” said Carleton head coach Jerry Ericksen. “I think that our team is in a strong position to make a run going into the second half of the season.

Carleton was led by Avery Tribus (Sr./Madison, Wis./Edgewood), who improved on his first day 79 to post a score of 76 in the final round. He ended the tournament in a tie for eighth place. Seniors David Perl (Glencoe, Ill./New Trier), Sam Reategui (Highland Park, Ill./North Shore), and Aaron Sparby (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) rounded out the scorers for the Knights.

Perl registered consistent scores of 79-79, while Reategui and Sparby turned in cards with scores of 81-79 and 80-81, respectively, for the weekend.

“It is very exciting to see so much competition within our team and have guys post good scores even without their best games,” Reategui commented after the final round.

The Knights continue their season on Sunday, Sept. 16 with a triangular match against St. Olaf College and Macalester College at Willingers Golf Club in Northfield, Minn.
