COON RAPIDS, Minn- Sophomore Ned Rohrbach (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) fired a one-over par 73 to lead the Carleton College men’s golf team to the eighth position after the first round of the 2013 MIAC Championships. Rohrbach sits in a tie for fifth place, trailing first-round leader Casey Vangsness of Saint John’s University by six shots.
Carleton opened the team portion of the event with a combined score of 318, three shots behind St. Olaf College for seventh. Saint John’s is in the lead after shooting an incredible team score of one-under par 287. Carleton’s Aaron Buckley (Sr./San Diego, Calif./Francis Parker School) fired an eight-over par 80 to tie several others for 30th, while Jeff Berg (Sr./Wood Dale, Ill./Wheaton Academy) was a shot back with an 81. Brian Herlihy (So./Danbury, Conn./Immaculate High School) shot an 83 and Jorde Ranum (Jr./Spring Lake Park, Minn./Spring Lake Park) added an 85 to round out Carleton’s scoring players.
The men will be back on the course Sunday morning and will attempt to improve their position in this three-round event. The Knights will be paired with Saint Mary’s and Macalester for the second round with tee times will beginning at 11:28 at Bunker Hills Golf Course.
