DETROIT LAKES, Minn. - The Carleton College men’s golf team looked to continue its strong play this season as the Knights competed in the Wildflower Cobber Invitational. Carleton was able to post consistent rounds of 313 and 317 to finish fifth out of 12 teams and was the top finishing Division III program in the field.

“Fifth place ahead of the likes of the University of Manitoba, University of Minnesota-Morris and St. Olaf College, was the reward for everyone scraping for every stroke as the wind and fescue grass took its toll on all the teams,” commented Coach Jerry Ericksen after the completion of play on Sunday.

The Knights were led by seniors Perry Strong (Sr./Cincinnati, Ohio/Loveland) and Evan Anderson (Sr./Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater), both of whom played solid rounds over the weekend to finish inside the top ten. Strong improved on his first day 78 as he matched his career low with a final-round 74 to move up 15 places into a tie for eighth place. Anderson carded a 74 and 79 to finish in a tie for 10th place.

“In a strong wind both days, Evan Anderson's 74 on Saturday and Perry Strong's 74 on Sunday gave the Knights their highest finish in this level tournament in decades,” said Ericksen.

The Knights look to continue building momentum when they take part in the Saint John’s Invitational next weekend held at Blackberry Ridge Golf Club and Greystone Golf Club in
