SAUK CENTRE, Minn. – This weekend the Carleton College men’s golf team competed in the Saint John’s Fall Invitational held at Blackberry Ridge Golf Course and Greystone Golf Club. In an extremely strong field—including three top-25 DIII teams and four others receiving votes—the Knights struggled with strong winds and long fescue on both courses, finishing the tournament 15th out of 17 teams.

“The best we could do was an 83 and 80 by Avery Tribus,” said Carleton head coach Jerry Erickson after the completion of the tournament on Sunday afternoon. “The others were closely grouped, so the selection of players to compete in the conference tournament remains up in the air.”

Tribus (Jr./Madison, Wis./Edgewood) started day two with a triple bogey, but bounded back to record a trio of birdies. On the weekend, he was most effective on the par 5’s, playing those eight holes at a total of one-over par for the weekend.

Carleton’s other four players in the lineup concluded the weekend within four shots of one another.

The Knights continue their fall campaign with split-squad action next weekend. In addition to playing at the Twin Cities Classic from September 23-25, Carleton will also engage in a triangular match on Saturday against rivals Macalester College and St. Olaf College. The Knights look to strengthen their play and solidify their lineup before the MIAC Championships in two weeks.
